Subject:Hello, all!
Posted by:darkandbroody.
Time:9:07 am.
Greetings!

I see that this community has not been active in a while, but I'm going to see what's up on here anyway.

I'm going to be new to Marquette this fall and I was wondering what sort of nightlife (and culture-ish life) there is in Marquette.  I grew up in Ann Arbor and went to EMU, so I'm used to the varied clubs, cafes and bars in the area.  I'm looking to see what would be fun for a 20-something grad student (hookah bar, dance club, good ole bar, etc) to do when I have time to enjoy the surroundings.

Thanks a bunch!

Hi Everyone.
I am the president of the on-campus student organization -- Alpha Phi Omega.
We are a National Co-Ed Service Fraternity, very different from the social fraternity and sororities on campus. We participate in many different service projects all around campus and the community.
Some of the places/people we volunteer with are:
-Children's Museum
-Marquette General Hospital
-Norlite Nursing Home
-Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts

These are just an example of what we do. If you are interested in joining us, please come to one of our informational meetings:
Monday, February 12th -- 7pm in the Payne/Halverson Lobby
Tuesday, February 13th -- 5pm in room 311 of the LRC
Thursday, February 15th -- 7pm in the Van Antwerp/Hunt Basement

PLEASE come if you are interested. We have a lot of fun and we help the community...It also looks really good on resumes!
Food will be provided at all informational nights.

Subject:Free Hugs at NMU
Posted by:wrm_mpth_genuin.
Time:9:19 pm.
I was very pleased to see that the Free Hugs movement has come to NMU. I was on campus dropping some books off at the library and saw the huggers outside. I was in my suit and long, wool coat and I'm sure I must have looked a little intimidating, but the hugger offered me a hug and I took him up on it. Good job guys. Keep it up.

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about -- check out this:

Time:5:07 pm.

I am the author of a book called the Michigan Transfer Scholarship Guide: Public Colleges 2007. The book discusses transfer opportunities available to Michigan college students.  Subjects covered in the book include:

Available Transfer Scholarships

Exceptions to MACRAO

Housing requirements, options, and costs at Michigan’s public universities

Available Majors

Graduation Requirements at Michigan’s public universities

Tuition and fee prices

I wrote the book because, after meeting with an academic advisor at my community college every semester, I transferred with the confidence I would not lose any credits.  And, that’s all.  Residence Life policies at my new school left much to be desired.  Credits advisors had said would complete MACRAO did not, and I could have qualified for better transfer scholarships elsewhere.  Other transfer students I had met were encountering similar problems.

It is understandable that on occasion students may be inaccurately advised.  Academic advisors have the daunting job of consulting hundreds of students about, hundreds of programs, at dozens of universities in the state.  The Michigan Transfer Scholarship Guide is a single source where prospective transfer students can compare all their options.  It will be updated yearly and a version covering this state’s private colleges is being written.

The book can be ordered through Amazon.com, Bn.com, and through any other bookstore.  If you order it through a bookstore the ISBN is: 0-9788542-0-9.

If you don’t want to buy one, review copies have been sent to community college academic advising offices throughout the state.  If you do not have access to a community college academic advising office, please tell your library to order a copy.

Sincerely,

Andrew Watts

Subject:Equal Rights March.
Posted by:shawnaree.
Time:12:14 am.
Just a quick reminder (I know it's short notice if you've not heard before), that there is a March for Equality TODAY, Friday August 25th, starting at 1pm at the Marquette Post Office (at the corner of Washington and Third). If you want to go and need a ride, I'm offering rides from anywhere in Marquette-- just email me your location and how I can reach you!

Again, it's a...

Pride March for Acceptance

When: Friday, August 25, 2006, from 1:00 PM- 4:00 PM

Where: Post Office in downtown Marquette (Washington Street) to NMU’s Library (LRC)

This event is sponsored by the ACLU-NMU chapter, and will be attended by members of NMU's GLBTQA group OUTlook.

The purpose of this event is to give visiblity to the struggle of many people for equality in this country. Please, if you support the right of an American citizen to enter into the legally binding, state-recognized union known as marriage, if you support the right for millions of Americans to love and be loved by each other, for the betterment of the nation, come and show your support.

Hope to see you there!

-Shawn.
